Body Found On Island ID'd As Missing VA Fisherman

Posted: Updated:

CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) - Northampton County authorities have identified a body found on a barrier island as that of a fisherman who'd been missing since last December.

The Northampton County Sheriff's Office tells media outlets that the body of 54-year-old Gary Edward Webb of Williamsburg was found on Raccoon Island last week. The remote island is at the southern end of the Eastern Shore.

Webb's family reported him missing on Dec. 17, 2013, after he didn't return from a fishing trip in the York River. His john boat was later found about a mile south of the Coleman Bridge on the Gloucester County side of the river.

The cause of death hasn't been released.
