DORCHESTER CO., Md. - County, state and federal law enforcement agencies come together to dismantle a massive cocaine operation on the Eastern Shore. Police say an arrest made over the weekend, with additional evidence recovered Tuesday, deals a major blow to drug trade in our region.

Police say it's one of the largest drug trafficking rings ever seen in the region. The alleged ringleader, Shannon "Cutter" Banks was captured and taken into custody Friday.

"An arrest of this magnitude will bring serious ramifications on the drug trade throughout this entire region," Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said.

Banks was apprehended at his home at 5464 Moose Lodge Road in Cambridge. Police recovered over $200,000 in cash, suspected cocaine and other drug paraphernalia. Four days later, authorities discovered even more evidence at a storage unit on the very same street.

"One-hundred-and-seventy-five thousand dollars which you see before you was seized, an additional cocaine press and a loaded 22 caliber pistol were seized out of that unit. This seizure along with the seizure of cash that took place on Friday, brings the total to $408,000," Dorchester County Sheriff James Phillips said.

A total of 233 grams of cocaine was seized -- that's about the size of a brick. That along with all the other evidence in this particular case led police to believe that this is a massive operation that goes far beyond Dorchester County.

"I was kind of surprised. I thought we had moved out of that type of neighborhood," neighbor Snap Johnson said.

"I mean, it's everywhere. What do you expect? But there was a drug bust right up the street last year," Joshua Miller of Cambridge, Md. said.

Police say more arrests and seizures are to come, but for now, they believe they've successfully disrupted the flow of cocaine going into Dorchester county and the entire region.

"Anytime we can go out and get this deep into somebody's pockets, we're obviously starting to have an impact on them," Sheriff Phillips said.

Banks was hit with a long list of charges including possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia. He's being held on $500,000 bond.

This is a joint, ongoing investigation by the Dorchester County Narcotics Task Force, the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force, the Maryland State Police Drug Enforcement Division Major Traffickers Unit, the Dorchester County Sheriff's office and the Wicomico County Sheriff's office and federal officials.
