Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - An early morning home invasion in Salisbury, has left one person dead, and another in the hospital, and Police say they are looking for a suspect.

Maryland State Police say the incident happened in the 27500 block of Pemberton Drive, in Salisbury around 1:00 AM on Wednesday morning. The deceased victim has been identified as 72-year-old Donald Mariner,  of the 27000-block of Pemberton Drive, Salisbury. His body is being taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

MSP say they are not releasing any personal information about the second victim due to concerns for his safety, but say he is at Peninsula Regional Medical Center receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the home invasion.

According to the report, the investigation started just after 1:00 AM when Troopers from the Maryland State Police - Salisbury barrack, and officers from the Salisbury Police Department were dispatched to a call at the home, for a reported home invasion. When authorities arrived on scene, Troopers apparently found the second victim, who said he had been assaulted with a blunt object. Police say while they continued to check the home, they found Mariner injured.

Emergency Medical Personnel apparently attempted to treat both victims at the scene, but Mariner was pronounced dead, while the second victim was taken to PRMC. Maryland State Police say they are collecting evidence from the scene, and developing further leads regarding the suspect.

Police say they are looking for a suspect, described as an African American male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information is asked to contact Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101 or Crime Solvers at 410-548-1776. They are offering an up to $2,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. The investigation into this incident is reportedly on-going.

After speaking with Wicomico County Board of Education, they have reportedly been told by the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office, that there is not an active school safety issue, so they have not locked down any schools.
