1 Year Later, Boston Marathon Bombings Still Hit Close To Home

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - The one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings hit close to home for some on Delmarva.

"It was surreal a year ago," says Jake Day, Salisbury City Council president. "We had a couple of weeks where I think the memory lingered with her.

Day's wife Liz was a runner in the marathon, and had just finished the race when the explosions went off. Luckily, she was able to flee the scene and get to her hotel. Day was home at the time to be sworn in for city council, and he says it took nearly an hour to get in contact with her. He's grateful to say the two were able to bounce back quickly.

"Now it's a distant memory, it feels like it was years ago," says Day. "It's been a year of accomplishment and hard work and a year of change personally and professionally. We've had a good year and Salisbury's had a good year and that's the best feeling."

Day says his wife is running more than ever, and has signed up to do a marathon in October to qualify for next year's Boston Marathon. He has also agreed to run in the October marathon, which will be his first.
