Allen Dietrich Honored With Teacher Who Makes A Difference Award

Posted: Updated:

47 ABC News - Tuesday morning, 47 ABC made a special visit to a local school to surprise a remarkable teacher.

Allen Dietrich was honored with 47 ABC and Accurate Optical's "Teacher Who Makes A Difference Award" for the month of February.

This is Dietrich's 17th year as a teacher in Dorchester County. Born and raised in Cambridge, he's been teaching sixth grade science at Maces Lane Middle School for the past seven years.

He says the key to being an effective teacher is by creating meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.

"I like seeing the kids' expressions and faces each day. Everything new I have to teach -- I use a lot of strategies that -- I love hands on. When I was a kid, it was either, you do it with your hands and experience it, or you read about it; and I like doing both. But most of the time I'm a visual, auditory and a hands-on learner," he said.
