DE Leaders Discuss Workforce Training

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Gov. Jack Markell is urging Delaware business leaders to spread the word about the importance of holding Delaware school students to higher standards and making sure they are college and career ready when they leave school.

Markell on Monday joined former Maine Gov. John McKernan, who now leads the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, to address how schools and businesses need to work together to ensure that students have the skills they need to compete and succeed in a global economy.

One key to that effort is implementing Common Core academic standards that have been adopted by Delaware and most other states. The standards set out what math and English skills students should have as they progress through school and are designed to help them think critically.
