FREDERICA, Del. - Tricia Martin of Camden, and her daughter Taryn, have both died after a Friday crash near Frederica.

Police say 42-year-old Martin, principal of Milford Central Academy, was driving on Barratts Chapel Road, when she struck an embankment and overturned late Friday night.

The passenger, 10-year-old Taryn Martin, was able to get out and flag down another car for help, but an approaching SUV struck the overturned car, and one of the vehicles then struck the girl.

Martin was ejected from the overturned car and thrown onto the roadway. She was pronounced dead at Christiana Medical Center. Police say Taryn was critically injured and taken to A. I. DuPont Hospital. 47 ABC has confirmed that Taryn has also died.

School officials tell 47 ABC Martin was in Milford School district for more than 12 years.  She started as a math teacher, later became assistant principal and then principal. She knew all of the school children by their first names.  We're told she was loved by everyone, had a great sense of humor, and was very qualified for the job.

Police say 49-year-old Richard Triola, the driver of the SUV, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

We'll have more details on the life of Tricia Martin on 47 ABC News at 6.
