PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - With the school year winding down, one local university is giving the public a look at what their art students have been up to.

The "ARTventure Time" exhibition opened up at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday.

The show features paintings, photography, and 2-dimensional art from the university's undergraduate students.  One of the highlights, a mural celebrating the legacy of Nelson Mandela, whosesuccessful struggle against the apartheid system in South Africa enabled him tobecome the first black president of the country.  Titled, "Reconstructing Mandela," the pieceis a collaboration between students and faculty.

School officials say it's not just the art itself the public gets interested in.

"The whole process of learning about art and learning how to make art is fascinating to a lot of people," says Susan Holt, the gallery director, "I think that they'll be very impressed by some of this work."

The exhibit is free and open to the public Mondaythrough Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Seniors graduating in May from the university'sfine arts program as a precursor to their show in the gallery May 1-15 will befeatured in an event April 15 at the Get'n Grounded Café in Princess Anne.  The UMES Jazz Band will perform from 5 to 6p.m. while student artists greet guests.

Six pieces of their art will be on display and offered for sale.
