SALISBURY, Md. - The Cityof Salisbury is looking to adopt a resolution to combat obesity in our area.
The HEAL Cities and TownsCampaign gives municipal leaders assistance in adopting local policies thatpromote access to healthy, affordable foods, convenient access to opportunitiesfor physical activity and recreation, as well as workplace wellness foremployees.
Part of that plan includes, developing andpromoting community gardens and farmers markets, and adopting a completestreets policy with bike lanes and multi-user paths.
"Helping to develop aresolution -- a plan, pointing your municipality toward healthier lifestyles. Thatmeans in terms of shaping the built environment as well as advocating for healthyfood and active lifestyle. So we wanted to basically set ourselves on a coursewhere we are becoming one of the healthiest cities in Maryland," City Council PresidentJake Day said.
The plan passed a worksession this week and is now going to the city council during legislativesession for final approval.
