DOVER, Del. - Thirty-five-year-old Mark Jones is now in custody, accused of robbing the Citizens bank in downtown Dover at gunpoint Friday afternoon. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police arrived on scene within one minute of the robbery call, but Jones was nowhere to be found. Four days later, an anonymous tip helped police track him down.

The Dover Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrested Jones just before noon, on Tuesday, at the Economy Inn, near Garrison's Lake, in Smyrna.

"They (police) responded to that area, set up surveillance, began monitoring the location and discovered that he was indeed staying there. They arrested him without incident," Corporal Mark Hoffman of the Dover police department said.

Jones was transported back to the Dover Police Department, for questioning and arraignment. Bond information was not immediately available.

This is just one of three area bank robberies in the past three months. Two weeks ago, the Bank of Delmarva on Eastern Shore Drive in Salisbury was robbed by a man wearing an army green jacket and a blue Yankees cap. Back in February, a bank teller at the BB&T on Mount Vernon Road in Princess Anne was handed a note, demanding money. In all incidents, the suspects were armed and ran away with cash.

"Yeah that's pretty scary. It's pretty scary stuff. I hope the police are on top of it," Suzanne Litty of Oxford, Md. said.

Police do not believe the recent crimes are a trend, but they ask that all banks evaluate their security procedures and that residents stay alert.

"The best thing to do is just to listen to whatever the suspect is demanding and comply with those demands," Hoffman said.

Jones is facing charges including 1st degree Robbery and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony.

As for the robberies in Salisbury and Princess Anne, police do not have any new developments or leads at this time and are asking for any tips that may lead to an arrest.
