Milton Teen Accused Of Leading Troopers On Car Chase Through Lewes

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - A Milton teenager was arrested on Monday, after she apparently lead Police on a short pursuit through Lewes.

Delaware State Police say around 2:15 AM on Monday morning, a Trooper on patrol on Coastal Highway, near Dartmouth Road, saw a silver Chevrolet Impala driving erratically. According to the report, when the Trooper tried to stop the vehicle, the driver continued South at a high rate of speed, making abrupt lane changes.

Police say the chase seemed to be coming to an end, when the Impala suddenly made a U-turn, and started driving North in the Southbound lanes, before crossing into the center median of Bay Vista Road, where it continued Northbound in the correct lanes. Troopers say they kept following the vehicle, which eventually used the bus travel lanes, until it blew a front tire, causing it to come to a controlled stop, just South of Dartmouth.

Police were able to immediately take the 16-year-old driver into custody without further incident. After an DUI investigation, and Police determining that the teenager did not have her parent's permission to be driving the car, she was charged with disregarding a police officer signal, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while suspended and revoked, driving on the wrong side of the road, speeding, and numerous other moving violations.

The 16-year-old is now being held at Stevenson House Detention Center in Milford on $3,041 bond.
