Salisbury Works To Rebuild Public's Trust After Internal Theft

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - The city of Salisbury is still investigating nearly $3,000 in missing bank deposits.

According to Salisbury City Police, the money went missing from within the Salisbury Finance Department back in January, just one day before they were supposed to be deposited.

47 ABC spoke with Salisbury City Mayor Jim Ireton, who says at this point, they're not sure if the money was stolen or just lost, but changes have been made to the internal finances system.

"All the procedures inside the internal services department have been gone over, looked over, redone.  Access to the office has been changed.  All of those things have happened from the ground up," says Mayor Ireton, "it comes down to trying to make sure the public...we reestablish our trust with the public, and they have trust that we know what we're doing down there."

Anyone with information should contact Crime Solvers at (410) 548-1776.  There is a $1,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
