WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - New Castle County police say a yearlong undercover operation led to the largest heroin seizure in the department's history.
Police announced Thursday that officers seized more than 13,500 bags of heroin with a street value of $41,600 at the Silver Springs Apartments on Lancaster Pike. Police say 11 people were arrested in the operation.
Police Chief Elmer Setting says the operation will disrupt drug activity in the area and police hope it will affect the "heroin epidemic" that drives a significant portion of crime.
During a five-day operation aimed at quality of life issues along Lancaster Pike, police say federal and local agencies made 39 arrests and seized drugs, including heroin, cocaine, marijuana and pills.
