Salisbury PD Investigating Apparent Internal Theft From City's Finance Department

SALISBURY, Md. - Authorities are looking for information, after a bank deposit for a local city, went missing.

Salisbury Police say their investigation started on January 14th, 2014, into the theft of a bank deposit from the City of Salisbury's Finance Department. Officials say the deposit, for $2,958.76 in cash, along with 61 checks, had been prepared by an employee on January 2nd, and was supposed to be deposited the next day.

Salisbury Police Chief, Barbara Duncan said "This case remains open and detectives continue to thoroughly investigate all leads. We are focusing our efforts on the internal operations of the Finance Department. We have made substantial progress with Director Cordrey in updating the operating procedures within the Finance Department to prevent future issues of this nature."

Director of Internal Services, Keith Cordrey said "While unfortunate, this event prompted the review of many processes within the department. This review resulted in significant process improvements in both assets and employee safety."

The investigation into the missing deposit is still on-going, and Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 410-548-3165 or Crime Solver at 410-548-1776.
