Battle Continues For Somerset Co. Wind Turbine Project

Posted: Updated:

SOMERSET CO., Md. - The battle continues over the proposed wind turbine project in Somerset County.

US Congressman Steny Hoyer testified in Annapolis yesterday in support of House Bill 1168, which would delay the project by 15 months. He also presented a letter signed by Senator Barbara Mikulski in support of the legislation. The bill requires a study to ensure the turbines do not interfere with radar at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

The company behind the project, Pioneer Green Energy, says they already reached an agreement with Pax River's Department of Defense, and a 15 month delay would kill the project from happening.

The wind farm could reportedly bring $44 million to the county over 30 years.
