SU Brings Back Senior Class Gift In Light Of Fall Shooting

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Seniors at Salisbury University are bringing back the idea of a class gift in light of last semester's tragic shooting.

Just about seven months ago, a triple shooting near the campus left two dead and seriously injured SU student Kristen Loetz. School officials say while Loetz had a ton of support during her recovery, they wanted to establish a crisis fund that could financially help any student during a critical time of need.

SU reportedly has not had a senior class gift for a few years, but school officials hope every senior class will want to give to this fund.

"We'll continue to accept donations regardless," says Jamie Block, Director of Alumni Relations and Gift Development at SU. "Obviously this is a fund that we hope we never have to use, but if we have to due to a crisis, we would like those funds to be available to make those students lives a little bit better."

Block says he is currently working with student affairs to nail down a criteria that will make sure it is given to students who need it the most. He says anyone in the community can donate, not just students and alumni. For more information, visit their website.
