Local Legislators Still Hopeful For MD Official Sandwich

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - The state of Maryland's official drink of milk may eventually have a soft-shell crab sandwich to go along with it.

Some legislators, including Senator Richard Colburn (R-37-Mid-Shore) is pushing for legislation that would make the sandwich official. Senator Colburn argues the fried sandwich, often between two pieces of white bread or toast, is unique because it is coming from the Chesapeake Bay.

Others argue that the crabcake sandwich should be the official sandwich, but Senator Colburn says the crab in that sandwich could potentially be from anywhere, not just Maryland.

Senator Colburn says the bill was heard in both the House and Senate, but so far no action has been taken.
