ABC's Josh Elliott Leaving Show For NBC Sports

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK, Ny. - ABC says "Good Morning America" personality Josh Elliott has told the network he's accepted an offer to go to NBC Sports, and he has been quickly replaced on the morning show by Amy Robach.

ABC News President Ben Sherwood said Elliott told them he was leaving on Sunday. Elliott was the news anchor for the top-rated morning broadcast, part of a tight-knit team with Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Lara Spencer.

He was the second defection at "GMA" in the past few months, with weather forecaster Sam Champion leaving for a job at The Weather Channel. Robach, who used to work at NBC News, is familiar to the ABC audience as a fill-in for Roberts when she was ill.

NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes confirmed the move Sunday, saying Elliott will work on Sunday night football, the Olympics, horse racing and other events.
