Serious One Car Crash Under Investigation In Felton

FELTON, Del. - Police are investigating a serious crash that happened early Friday morning, near Felton.

Delaware State Police say their Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a serious crash that happened just before 1:30 AM. According the report, 20-year-old Jacob Witherspoon, of Felton was driving a 1988 Honda Accord on Sportsman Road, just North of Hills Market Road, when he drove off the road and hit a tree with the left front corner of the car.

Police say Witherspoon, was wearing a seat belt, had to be flown from the scene by State Police helicopter to Kent General Hospital, before being transferred to Christiana Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Sportsman Road was reportedly closed for around two hours while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated, and cleared the crash. Police say speed may have been a contributing factor in this crash.
