MARYLAND - Hazing is one step closer to carrying major penalties in Maryland.
Legislation passed the Senate on Wednesday that would increase the criminal penalty from $500 to $5,000. The measure will now reportedly head to the house.
State Senator Jamie Raskin reportedly introduced the bill, after a case involving Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Salisbury University. A former student reportedly claimed he was forced to stand in trash cans filled waist-deep with ice during a spring semester of 2012.
