Lt. Gov. To Promote Minimum Wage In MD

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown plans to promote the minimum wage hike at a Randallstown church.

Brown will meet with Bishop Dennis Madden, along with dozens of other faith leaders, minimum wage workers and bill advocates, at the Union Bethel AME church. The rally is set for 9 a.m. Monday.

A Senate committee is considering bills that would raise the minimum wage to $10.10 by 2016 or 2017.

Also on Monday, a workgroup will meet again to discuss short-term fixes for Maryland's bail system.

The state will need to start providing public defenders at all bail hearings in June, unless legislators revise the system before then. Eventually they may switch to a system relying more on data and computers, but the workgroup is seeking a temporary adjustment in the meantime.
