Lewes Sees Real Estate Bounce-Back

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - Sussex County realtor, Julie Gritton, is on a short break from a hectic day, selling and renting homes in Lewes.

"I would say we were booked more, earlier this year compared to other years," says Gritton.

The busyness has become the norm.  Julie says market in Lewes has not only been seeing more business, with more homes selling in the high hundred thousand, to million dollar range, business is coming in with a bigger price tag.

Julie tells WMDT "this area hasn't seen houses selling for that much a lot."

Not only are realtors seeing an increase in purchases and rentals, they're seeing people coming to Lewes from places they'd never really seen before, like California, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio...

Her theory: as families pull themselves from years of economic uncertainty, they're more willing to spend on a trip to the beach.

With Lewes being less ocean resort, and more of a waterfront community, realtors say people are realizing this small town has a hidden charm at a lower price.

"There are a lot lore families saving money, and they want to do smaller vacations," says Gritton.
