Newark Car Crash Kills Two

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, DE - According to Delaware State Police, two Newark women were killed in an early morning crash.  It happened around 1:20 Friday morning on Paper Mill Road north of the intersection of Possum Park Road.

Police say the driver of the 2000 Plymouth Neon lost control of the vehicle, and it traveled over the raised concrete median. The car reportedly continued in a northwesterly direction, crossing the southbound lane, striking the curb and ultimately stopping when the passenger side struck a utility pole.

The driver, a 23-year-old female and the 22-year-old female passenger were both from Newark. Police are withholding their identities pending notification of next of kin. Officials say neither of the women were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation. The preliminary investigation has not uncovered any evidence of drug or alcohol use.

Paper Mill Road was closed for approximately five hours as Troopers investigated and cleared the crash.
