AAA Releases Findings On July Bay Bridge Crash

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - An autoclub has released its report findings after a serious crash sent a woman's car over the side of a bridge, this summer.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says after the July 19th, 2013 crash, where a car was hit by a large truck, which then caused it to go over the barrier and end up in the water below, they asked the National Transportation Safety Board to undertake an investigation into the incident.

AAA and NTSB released their findings on Wednesday. Their findings were reportedly consistent with the Maryland Transportation Authority and the Maryland State Police, which confirmed that the cause of the crash was inattention of the truck driver, not a failure of the specific restraint system used on the bridge, which was apparently a concern for AAA.

The MDTA has reportedly added more safety enhancements to the bridge, nonetheless. Ragina Cooper-Averella, AAA Mid-Atlantic's Public and Government Affairs Manager reminds drivers, "While the safety enhancements are important and will certainly address some concerns AAA has raised, it is incumbent upon motorists to stay focused, observe the speed limit and not be distracted when driving."
