Police Pursue Tip In Unsolved Alexandria Slayings

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - Police are investigating whether a man arrested Thursday in West Virginia could be linked to the unsolved slayings of three Alexandria residents over the last 10 years.

Alexandria police said Friday that the man, a longtime city resident, came to their attention on a tip. Police say they then learned that the man was illegally in possession of a firearm as a felon. Police in Wheeling, W.Va., arrested him Thursday.

Authorities cautioned, though, that the tip is merely one among many that they continue to pursue in the case. Alexandria police spokeswoman Crystal Nosal said Friday that police are nowhere near filing murder charges in any of the cases.

An unsolved shooting in the city last month has been linked to two other unsolved murders in 2003 and 2013.
