UPDATE: Panel Continuing Review Of DE Election Laws

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Members of a task force charged with reviewing Delaware's election laws are wrapping up work on recommendations to be submitted to state lawmakers later this month. In a meeting Wednesday, panel members reaffirmed a previous decision to recommend that the three county elections boards be eliminated in favor of a single state elections board.

They also voted to recommend that the ability of political parties to replace candidates who withdraw at the last minute be limited. But they deferred action on whether to recommend that primary elections be moved to the second Tuesday in August. They're now held in September.

Panel members also deferred any recommendations regarding campaign finance reform, early voting and no-excuse absentee voting because such issues are expected to be taken up by the General Assembly.
