WORCESTER CO., Md. - Police say that human remains found in the water in Worcester County on Sunday, have been identified as a missing South Point woman.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland says that they have identified the body as 77-year-old Helen David, who disappeared on Memorial Day Weekend 2013.

Police say a waterman working near Bay Landing Drive on Sunday evening, found the remains, and called Police.

For some family members, months of searching, praying, and questioning where David wandered off to, have finally come to an end.

"It's closure, I think a lot of us knew," says Michael Camillo, great nephew of David. "We didn't want it to be this way we were hoping a report would pop up that she was found some place, but now we can move on."

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office says David suffered from dementia, and was known to wander off from her Carefree Lane home, where she lived with her son, from time to time. Camillo says she often walked to his parents home down the street, but never completely disappeared. She was reportedly found close to her home, in a marshy area known as a mosquito ditch.

"Stepping into the area where she was found, you could sink very deep into it and be unable to get yourself out of it," says Lt. Edward Schreier with the Worcester County Sheriff's Office. "You could literally stop right overtop of that ditch and not know somebody was underneath of it."

Lt. Schreier says they have not ruled out anything at this time, but they do not believe there was any foul play.

"In this case it really does appear that unfortunately a person with dementia wandered off and was unable to be found in a timely manner and died," says Lt. Schreier.

The medical examiner's office is still investigating the manner and cause of David's death, at this time. In the meantime, her family members are remembering her life.

"She was always having fun always smiling always laughing," says Camillo. "We'll miss her and we'll always miss her, she was a good person."
