Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER CO., Md. - A Connecticut man has been arrested, after Police say they found boxes of unstamped cigarettes in his vehicle, during a traffic stop. On Monday morning, just before 8:30 AM, Maryland State Police - Berlin say a Trooper used a laser to see a 1998 red Chevy Lumina driving 72 MPH on Route 113, which is faster than the posted speed limit of 55, and pulled them over.

During the stop, at S. Shingle Landing Road, the Trooper noticed a blue blanket covering multiple boxes of cigarettes, and searched the vehicle. That search reportedly turned up 310 cartons of unstamped/untaxed cigarettes.

The driver, 73-year-old Paul Trepanier, of Connecticut, was charged with possession of unstamped/untaxed cigarettes, and processed at the MSP Berlin Barrack. The Maryland State Comptroller is apparently continuing the investigation at this time. Trepanier was seen by a District Court Commissioner.
