Dover Family Joins New Trend: Plans To Launch Mobile Retail Truck

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - You've heard of them. Maybe you've even eaten from them. But now, mobile food trucks are making way for retail shops on wheels -- with plenty of deals. And one Dover family has plans to hit the road.

"What person needs the convenience of a shop coming to you more than a new parent," said Lynsey Larson, the brains behind "Go Go Bambino."

She was having a hard time finding safe, eco-friendly baby items after her second child, Gus, was born. She thought of opening a physical store, but didn't think it was practical for her young family.

"So that really sparked our idea to carry all of our favorite things in a truck that can come to you," Larson said.

For the "Go Go Bambino" brand, the young entrepreneur wants to keep it local with products from the Delmarva area, and even some from Pennsylvania. The inventory will include things like handmade booties and whimsical teething rings.

"I think that communities are interested in supporting their local artisans, their local creators," Larson said. "When you have a mobile boutique, you can source all of those goods and bring them together."

Larson is part of a growing trend of business owners, literally rolling into cities across the country. But her inspiration comes from the only established retail truck in Delaware: Passionista. Owner Emily Duran says it was a decision that just made sense.

"It's pay as you go really," Duran said. "If you want the truck on the road you have to pay for gas, but that's kind of it."

And Lynsey is hopeful her future customers will invest in a dream that she says will ultimately benefit their community. In another new trend, the family listed the project on the crowd-funding site "Indie Go Go," to raise enough money to have the truck ready by June.

Larson estimates they'll need $10,000 to buy a truck they've got their eyes on, and remodel and refit it before it makes the first trip.

"It's kind of like small supporting small, and I think it's going to be a growing trend."
