SALISBURY, Md. - A Salisbury man is behind bars, after apparently trying to flee from Police during a traffic stop.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Sunday, around 12:30 PM, an Deputy tried to stop a vehicle on Lake Street, after noticing that the driver wasn't wearing a seat belt. According to the report, instead of stopping, the driver, 21-year-old Edgar Watson, sped away from the Deputy, before eventually pulling over.

Police say once stopped, Watson was acting in a secretive manner, so the Deputy ordered Watson from the vehicle, after which Watson reportedly elbowed the Deputy in the chest, and kicked him. Watson reportedly continued to try to kick the Deputy, while he struggled to put handcuffs on him.

An investigation showed that the registration on Watson's vehicle had expired on December 2013, and that on February 28th, he had been charged with operating on an expired registration.

Once at the Sheriff's Office, the Deputy had to physically move an uncooperative Watson into the building. Watson was charged with 2nd degree assault, resisting arrest, attempt by driver to flee and elude, and operator not restrained by seat belt. He is being held at the Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
