HARRINGTON, Del. - The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says they are investigating a building fire in that heavily damaged the structure and injured two firefighters.
According to reports, the blaze occurred shortly after 1:00 pm Saturday in the 300 block of Hayfield Road near Burnite Mill Road. The Harrington Fire Company reportedly arrived on the scene with smoke coming from a poultry building, and was assisted by neighboring fire companies.
Officials say two firefighters were injured while performing suppression activities. One male firefighter was reportedly transported to the Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware for smoke inhalation, and a second male firefighter was transported to the Bayhealth - Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware also suffering smoke inhalation. Both firefighters were reportedly listed in stable condition.
State fire investigators say they are searching for the fire's origin and cause. Fire damage was reportedly estimated at $200,000. There were no chickens inside the poultry building when the fire was discovered.
