DSP Investigating Fatal Seaford Crash

SEAFORD, Del. - The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continues to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash in Seaford.

Officials say it happened just after 5 p.m. Friday, as Herbert F. Cummings was driving southbound on Ross Station Road approaching Herring Run Road.  At the same time, John M. Russell Jr. was headed northbound on Ross Station Road just south of Herring Run Road. 

Reports show Cummings crossed the northbound lanes while going around a slight curve, striking Russell head-on. Both vehicles spun around and came to a stop in the northbound lane.

Russell, who was properly restrained, was and transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Cummings was also properly restrained and taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ross Station Road was closed for approximately four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
