Fruitland Students Raise $14K+ For AHA

Posted: Updated:

FRUITLAND, Md. - Students at Fruitland Primary had the chance to have a bit of fun all for a good cause Friday. As part of their fundraising for Jump Rope For Heart, students purchased arm-length pieces of tape.

Friday, they used that tape to attach kindergarten assistant Mary Taylor to the wall. But for the participants it was about much more than that. Ms. Taylor and some students shared their thoughts with us:

"They can help get new hearts n' stuff. So they can help their hearts," said second grader Will Fykes.

"Beyond just raising the money, it's about kids getting up, moving, getting exercise," said Ms. Taylor.

"When you raise money it gives the money to people that need heart surgery," said Maddison Horner, 2nd grade.

"it's jump rope for heart and we raised over $14,000," said second grader Kendall Mahle.

Organizers say 258 students participated in the fundraising event that raised $14,000.
