GEORGETOWN, Del. - 80 soldiers with the Delaware National Guard are home safe and sound today.

Members of the 198th Expeditionary Signal Battalion are back for the first time since leaving for Afghanistan in May of last year. The flight landed on Wednesday afternoon at The New Castle Air National Guard Base, and about 30 soldiers bussed to Georgetown afterwards to greet loved ones.

"I'm overwhelmed, excited, all of the above," says Jessica May, wife of a soldier.

"I'm so excited, it's finally over with," says Ann Short, wife of a soldier. "It's not our first time but it feels like it and you can't imagine."

Soldiers with the 300 member battalion have returned in phases over the past few months, as bases begin to shut down in Afghanistan. Delaware National Guard officials say the remaining soldiers will return to Delaware on March 1st.

Those that are already home say they are ready to spend time with their loved ones.

"It's just good to be home," says Staff Sergeant Jerry Lee. "I'm ready for a lot of family time."
