Driskell Visits UMES, Gallery On Display Until Mar. 15th

Posted: Updated:

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - African-American art from the David C. Driskell Center will be on display at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore until March 15th.

The display is free and open to the public in the Mosely Gallery, located in the Thomas Briggs Arts & Technology building on campus. About 30 pieces are on display, spanning eight decades of history with varying themes and styles.

The pieces come from the center housed at the University of Maryland College Park, which was created to honor Driskell, an artist, collector, and art historian. Among his many accomplishment, Driskell's artworks are parts of collections in the National Gallery of Art and the Yale University Gallery.

Driskell visited the campus Tuesday to talk about his life work and collection.

"They are works for you to study to contemplate and see that they have meaning within history," says Driskell. "Other than the educational component, we hope that these works inspire the students here, and that some day we may have works by them in our collection."

For more information call 410-651-7770 or visit the Mosely Gallery website.
