SMYRNA, Del. - A head on collision in Smyrna, left one woman dead, and two men injured on Tuesday morning.

Delaware State Police say the crash happened on a wet and snowy Route 1, just before 10:50 AM. According to the report, 78-year-old Brigitte Best, of Berlin, Maryland, was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima, North, when she apparently lost control, crossed over the grass median, and collided head-on with a 2002 Ford Express Van.

Best was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene, while the two male occupants of the van, both of Elkton, Maryland, were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Police say all of the occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Route 1 was apparently closed for three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit. At this time, the crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
