Parsonsburg Fire Department Gets Life Saving Machine

PARSONSBURG, Md. - Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Company just received a live-saving gift: a Lucas 2 Chest Compression System, the only one in Wicomico County.

"This is a great piece for us for cardiac arrest patients that we might have some trouble getting to," said Michael Parsons of the Parsonsburg Vol. Fire Department.

It provides constant and equal compressions during CPR, especially while patients are being moved. Parsons says that can be difficult when response teams have to stop to lift or move patients. And it can be used on patients that are sitting or lying down.

"The biggest thing with chest compressions is to do them quickly and properly," said Glenn Costa, Perdue Emergency Response Fire Chief.

The machine comes after the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation made a donation of $13,000.

"We're honored to help them buy this piece of equipment that we know could save the life of one of our neighbors," said Kim Nechay, the foundation's Executive Director. "But hopefully, we won't have to use it."
