MD Discusses Student Privacy Bill For Schools

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Protecting student privacy could soon be a new law in Maryland.

Lawmakers met Friday to discuss the measure that would set minimum standards for the collection of student information from cloud computing providers. Schools use these companies to store data like the student's age, race and test scores.

Supporters of the bill say many third-party providers take the data they collect from schools for marketing purposes, or sell the data to other commercial companies.
