Meeting Of Delaware Gambling Panel Canceled

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - There's no sure bet on when a panel examining how to keep Delaware's gambling industry competitive will submit a report to lawmakers.

The commission originally was supposed to submit its findings and recommendations by Jan. 31.

But state finance secretary Tom Cook indicated late last month that the panel he chairs was looking at a new deadline of Feb. 28.

Now, it's unclear whether the cancellation of a meeting that had been scheduled for Thursday will result in an even longer wait.

A key issue for the panel is how much of a hit the state general fund should take in order to give a financial break to Delaware's three casinos, which have steadily lost business to neighboring states despite the addition of table games, sports betting and online gambling.
