WMDT Presents HALO With Check, Shelter To Get More Beds
SALISBURY, Md. - Tuesday morning WMDT presented HALO with a check of over $2,200 to be used for new beds. HALO is a faith-based ministry that provides food and shelter for the homeless in the community.
The money came from a golf fundraiser WMDT hosted in the fall. Executive Director of HALO, Celeste Savage says with this money, they will be able to bring in six or seven more beds. She says the leftover money will go toward its garden, which has helped directly supply meals for those in need.
"I'm excited that we were given this opportunity because now we're going to be able to put in some more raised beds. Since we've opened the café we've served over 2,700 meals, and this is going to help us give even more fresh vegetables and fruits to our guests when they're coming in. So this is huge for us," she said.
"We had originally contributed money to the start of the garden, and we want to be an ongoing supporter of it because it's sustainable gardening and it's for the benefit of the homeless. It teaches skill in addition to bringing food to the cafe," WMDT General Manager Kathleen McLain said.
HALO serves between 200-225 meals to the homeless every day.
