CHESWOLD, Del. - A house fire in Downtown Cheswold that took the lives of three pets, is under investigation.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire started around 9:00 AM, inside a first floor bedroom of the two story New Street home. The Cheswold Fire Company, with assistance from several neighboring fire companies, had the fire under control by just before 10:45 AM.

Officials say all six of the home's occupants were able to get out, uninjured, but three dogs were found deceased inside. The home was reportedly not equipped with working smoke detectors.

Investigators say they are still working to determine the cause of the fire. Damages are estimated at $125,000. The home next door, sustained minor heat damage during the blaze. The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants.
