MD Insurance Experts Hope For Alternatives To Online Exchange

Posted: Updated:

MARYLAND - With alternative enrollment options up for discussion in Maryland, some local insurance experts are hoping to drop the website completely.

Chris Carroll, Vice President and health specialist with Atlantic, Smith, Cropper, and Deeley, says one of the more popular solutions amongst insurance experts is a  "carrier direct" option, which involves buying a policy directly through a health insurance carrier.

Carroll says when the carriers are not using the online exchange, they can usually get people enrolled in under 10 minutes.

"It's putting that responsibility more on the carrier to send an entire electronic feed of data to the government in one swoop on a monthly basis," says Carroll. "That's opposed to each individual having to bang off of these different federal registries. It would greatly improve the system all around."

According to Carroll, the exchange is just one part of the issue. Stay tuned to WMDT and we will give you much more on the latest developments with the state's health overhaul over the next few weeks.
