New York, Feb. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Evidence-based education and training company, Select Media, was recently recognized in Mathematica Policy Research's report on the Personal Responsibility Education Program's (PREP) adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection prevention efforts.

The Mathematica Report, released in October 2013, indicated that four of the six most popular evidence-based curricula serving the greatest number of youth come from Select Media; these include Making Proud Choices, Be Proud, Be Responsible, Making A Difference, and Cuidate! Moreover, of the program models to be implemented by program providers in the forty-four PREP-funded states, a total of seven Select Media curricula will be employed in 28 states, serving an estimated 168,419 young people over the course of the grant period. Each of the seven program models is a United Stated Health and Human Services (HHS)-identified evidence based program.

PREP, which is authorized by Congress as part of the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is administered by the Administration on Children, Youth and Families under the auspices of HHS. State PREP grantees had discretion to design their own programs as long as they met four criteria; 1) they were evidence-based, 2) provided both abstinence- and contraceptive-based education, 3) educated youth on at least three of six adulthood preparation topics (health relationships, financial literacy, parent-child communication, healthy life skills, adolescent development, and educational and career success), and 4) targeted youth from high-risk populations, including youth in foster care and youth residing in geographic locations with high teen birth rates.
