The Totally History website has unveiled its selection of paintings considered by their team of writers to be the most famous artworks of all time.
(PRWEB) February 17, 2014
The art history department of the TotallyHistory website has finally published its long awaited list of what they consider to be the most famous painting of all time. The works are listed in chronological order, as opposed to listing them in order of preference according to the team of writers of the website who chose them. The selection of famous paintings is divided into a number of subgroups to ensure that all the most influential periods and styles of this art form are included and represented.
The different subsections of the list include such popular categories as Italian renaissance paintings, baroque paintings, and works of art from the 19th and 20th centuries. The pieces that have made it into this list include contributions from such well-regarded and famous artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso, to name just a few. As well as these high profile artists, there were also some pieces from lesser known individuals. When speaking to the head writer of the websites art history team, it was revealed that We aimed to make the list as inclusive and diverse as possible, which is why we decided to divide the list up into distinct categories to ensure we covered the most important eras.
At the totallyhistory.com website, where this list of famous paintings can be found, each of the entries is accompanied by a photograph of the work in question, as well as a small description which is linked to the paintings full profile on the website. Visitors to the website can view the work on one page, take in a small piece of information about each one, and then if so desired, they can find out the full story of the painting and the artist who created it. We decided to link each entry to a more detailed page to hopefully share some of the backstory and meaning behind each of the pieces the websites curator explained. Its great that people are taking the time to view these excellent works of art, but its also good too if they take the time to find out more about them and just why they are considered to be such classics, he continued.
For those browsing the list for the first time, they may perhaps spot some notable omissions from the selection. Yes, weve left out a few paintings which are often considered to be some of the most famous works of art, such as the The Creation of Adam fresco painting by Michelangelo, or The Hay Wain by John Constable, but we felt it was important to include not only the most well-known paintings but also some lesser recognised items, in the hope of bringing them to the attention of a new audience, one of the contributors to the list pontificated.
No matter what art works made it into the final selection of the most famous paintings of all time, there are sure to be many who agree with the choices, and just as many out there who disagree or feel that some important works have been overlooked.
