Ocean City Taxis Seek Per-Mile Rate Increase

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Cab drivers in Ocean City want to increase the per-mile rate charged to customers.

At a work session last Monday, representatives from two Ocean City based taxi companies, Nite Club Taxi and American Veterans Taxi, requested the Police Commission's recommendation to increase the per mile rate from $2.20 per mile to $3.00 per mile.

Company representatives said the per mile rate is split 50/50 between the company and the taxi driver, and the drivers must pay for their own gas out of that rate.

Taxi companies say the increased rate would put them in a position to hire and keep quality drivers.

The council requested a the two individuals who presented analyze their costs over the past four years and return to the March Police Commission meeting.  The Police Commission will review the comparative information from the taxi cab owners, which will be presented at the March 10th meeting, and will then ,make a recommendation to the Mayor and Council if a change is recommended.
