DELAWARE - Delaware's wetlands protect the first state during severe weather, by slowing and capturing water in the event of flooding. However, they may be at risk.
For that reason, Governor Jack Markell appointed a 28 member task force, the Wetlands Advisory Committee, back in July 2013 to collect data on the problem. The group reportedly met for the fifth time last week, and among their efforts, are looking for incentives to encourage landowners to protect wetlands.
Once huge concern for the taskforce, is reportedly how to secure funding if necessary. They plan to have their recommendations to the state by the end of the year.
