Inmate Attempts Escape From Vaughn Correctional Center

Posted: Updated:

SMYRNA, Del. - An inmate serving a life sentence for Kidnapping 1st, Robbery 1st and other additional charges reportedly attempted to escape from the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center (JTVCC) near Smyrna early Saturday morning.

According to reports, Michael T. Hollman was apprehended when he became trapped between a set of double fences. Officers were reportedly alerted by an alarm notification that was triggered at approximately 5:30 AM. Reports say the facility was placed on lockdown and an emergency headcount confirmed that all other inmates were accounted for at that time. The facility reportedly remains in lockdown status, which means inmate programs and outside visits are not being held.

Reports say Hollman, 43 (DOB 10/23/1970), arrived at JTVCC on April 11th, 2008. His sentence effective date was reportedly December 19th, 2008. Officials say he is serving life plus 83 years for Robbery 1st, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Kidnapping 1st (2 counts), Aggravated Menacing, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (3 charges) and Possession of a Schedule I Narcotic.

Reports say the Department of Correction officials are investigating the incident and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
