Wilmington Trolley Service Gets A Makeover

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Trolley service in Wilmington is getting a makeover.

Mayor Dennis Williams and Delaware Secretary of Transportation Shailen Bhatt helped announce a new route and fare changes for the trolley Monday.

The fare has been dropped from $1.15 to $1 and the 6:30 a.m. start for the trolley's 12-hour run has been moved back to 10:45 a.m. The new route includes a connection to the Riverfront, an area the trolley stopped visiting in 2012.

Will Minster, director of business development for Downtown Visions, one of the groups that led the effort for change, says he hopes ridership returns to levels of previous years. He says when the trolley launched in 2002, the monthly ridership was about 12,000, but now it can be as low as 1,200.
