Official: MD Looking At Health Exchange Options

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland's health secretary says the state is actively looking at alternative options to using the state's troubled health exchange for a signup period in November.

Dr. Joshua Sharfstein spoke Monday to a new oversight panel of lawmakers that is seeking updates on how the state's exchange is working.

Sharfstein says significant improvements have been made since the exchange opened with major problems on Oct. 1. However, he says serious information technology defects continue to cause problems for people seeking to enroll online.

The state is sticking with its own exchange for the signup period that ends March 31.
