UPDATE: Melvin Morse Takes The Stand Monday

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del. - The ex-pediatrician accused of waterboarding his step-daughter took the stand.

Melvin Morse testified that when the girl was about 8-years-old, it became a struggle within the household to keep her hair clean. Morse said he took over the hair-washing duties after the girl's mother gave up, but that he tried it only a few times himself before stopping.

The girl and her mother claim that Morse used hair-washing as a pretense for punishment.

His defense called several witnesses this morning, including Division of Family Services workers and a social worker from the Department of Justice with knowledge of the case on Monday morning. The social worker testified that the first time the young girl mentioned to prosecution that Morse screamed "Die!" during alleged waterboarding incidents was on a February 2nd meeting, a day before she was due to testify.

Prosecution reportedly met with the girl four times dating back to September 2012. Waterboarding allegations first surfaced back in 2012 after the girl ran away from home after Morse reportedly dragged her by the ankles from a car inside their home, spanked her and said she would received a worse punishment the next day.

Morse could get more than 20 years in prison if convicted.
